Third edition. 8vo. xxvii, 377, [ads. ] 4 pp. Tables. Original blind stamped black cloth, gilt spine; inner hinge cracking (binding still tight). INSCRIBED to "Dr. Lombard with kind regards from the author" (not signed). A FINE COPY. Clark was a Scottish surgeon who wrote a number of works, including the above, that detail the merits of hospitals and spas and evaluate the effect of climate on health. After joining the navy as a ship's surgeon, Clark was wrecked off the coast of New Jersey, before joining another ship which was promptly wrecked also. He visited spas across Europe and after meeting Prince Leopold (the future King of the Belgians) at one destination, Clark became the Prince's official physician. See: DNB III, pp. 401-402.
