About the Author

Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann (1776-1822) war ein deutscher Schriftsteller der Romantik. Au�erdem wirkte er als Jurist, Komponist, Kapellmeister, Musikkritiker, Zeichner und Karikaturist. Hoffmanns heute bekanntes Werk entstand in einer Zeitspanne von dreizehn Jahren. Dass er erst so sp�t das Bekenntnis zur Schriftstellerei wagte, ist seiner urspr�nglichen Pr�ferenz f�r die Musik zuzuschreiben, Hoffmann f�hlte sich eher zum Komponisten berufen.
