Louis Bertrand was born in France and later moved to Algiers; this is his first novel, which explores the complex identity of a French man living in Algeria.Notably, Bertrand's work often valorises the colony and its European inhabitants.This edition decorated throughout with compositions by Maurice Bouviolle, wood engraves by Paul Baudier.
