In the world of The Academy, there are many different groups of people. Vampires and Werewolves, also known as Curse-Bloods, are one such group. Through generations of work and struggle, despite their nature, the world has come to have a peaceful co-existence with the Curse-Bloods. However, during the night of a full moon while Vampires seek to keep the Werewolves in check, one attack stands out as different from the rest.

Angelica, a Vampire Lord who seeks to protect everyone she can, saves a young man from a werewolf attack only to find more trouble. Werewolves transforming outside the time of a full moon.

Alaric, Blood-bonded of Angelica and Underlord of the Great Plains Hive of vampires, must investigate the cause of these transformations in the hope of preventing unexpected transformations and deaths.

Their investigation will lead them across the ocean, through several parts of Europe, to the Elder Hive in Transylvania. Even into the place from which the Curse-Bloods gained their Curse.
