Eileen Brown began running on the trails and roads of upstate New York while a student a SUNY Binghamton. She continued her love of running and became an elite competitive runner after moving to Santa Cruz in 1984. She competed in two Olympic Trials in the marathon with a personal best of 2:40:51. She is currently the coach of the Santa Cruz Track Club Youth Cross Country team.

Steven Bignell has been running off and on since his freshman year at UCSC over 35 years ago, never very fast or very far. After his son joined the Santa Cruz Track Club Youth Cross Country team, Steven found himself getting consistently outrun by an 11-year old and decided he better start running more regularly. He thought this would be a good idea for a book. Steven is a longtime health educator and the publisher at Journeyworks.
