Kindergarten-Grade 3. The classic All-American Santa is portrayed here?full white beard; red, fur-trimmed suit; and crinkle-eyed smile. It's not hard to imagine these illustrations made into ornaments to hang from the tree. Accompanied by lighthearted poems about what Santa might do during his "time off," this sleek package is sure to please. And what does Santa do on his summer vacation? Anything he wants. He rides his bike. "At home the reindeer pull my sled/But here I have to pump instead." He drives. "When I'm not going far/I may tune up my car/Just to see if it goes all the way." At the beach, he discovers that "For elves it's lots of fun, you know/To build with sand instead of snow." He even cooks. "If anybody/Wants to eat/Somebody has to cook!" Readers will enjoy watching Santa enjoying everyday things, vacation things, even silly things, all with that familiar face and holiday smile. Each page has a festive green border and each oil painting is rich in color and detail. A winner for families to share.
