Synopsis
Dr. Melba Ketchum’s DNA study has found that Sasquatch arose long ago through crossbreeding between female Homo sapiens and males of another primate species, now extinct. Though the latter remains unidentified, it was almost certainly a fellow member of our Homo family tree. The uncanny humanness of Sasquatch has never been in doubt at “habituation sites,” places with which they have become familiar, returning regularly to homes and properties, often for years on end. Throughout North America, certain people have interacted with these curious, wily visitors and—in the humane, inquisitive spirit of Jane Goodall—sought to foster (so to speak) an ongoing family reunion. Meanwhile, hunters are active in our forests, each hoping to become wealthy and famous by “harvesting” a specimen and hauling that first giant corpse before the public. This event will certainly change the world but will also mark a low point in the history of human ego. While feeding our hunger for material proof, it will leave us at a loss for deeper understanding. Therefore, ahead of that dark day, we must welcome an immediate flowering of vivid accounts showing all that peacefully occurs between our two species. Christopher Noël holds a Master's degree in Philosophy from Yale and taught writing and literature for twenty years at Vermont College of Fine Arts.
