The fifth edition of this John Dryden translation.ESTC citation number T123528.Illustrated with a frontispiece, and twenty-one plates.Collated, bound without three plates.The collected satires of Juvenal and Persius. Both of the Roman poets are well remembered for their satirical poems, though their works differed in style greatly. This volume includes sixteen of Juvenal's satires, and six of Persius'.Juvenal's satires which are included in this volume are extracted from his collection title 'Satires', written between the end of the first and early second centuries A.D.Translated by John Dryden and others. In a full calf binding. Externally, worn, with rubbing to the board and spine. Loss of leather to the tail of the spine, with a small amount of loss to the head. Crack to the spine. Minor bumping to the extremities, with the leather lifting a little in places. Small crack to the rear joint and to the head of the front joint. Front hinge is starting but firm, rear hinge is strained. Lacking most of the paper to the paste downs. Lacking the front endpaper. Rear endpaper is detaching. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto of the front endpaper. Internally binding is strained in places. Pages are age-toned and generally clean with the occasional spot and ink mark to the margins. Title page is a little edgeworn. Frontispiece is edge worn and detaching. Prior owner's ink inscription to the head of the title page. Pages 175 to 186 are detaching. Plate facing page 13 is detaching. Lacking three plates. Good Only. Seller Inventory # 850P1
