Are You Saved? The Orthodox Christian Process of Salvation

First published in 1984, and now in its new full-color sixth edition for 2013, the book Are You Saved? will introduce you what has been termed one of North America's best-kept secrets: the ancient Orthodox Christian faith and its living experience of salvation in Christ. As taught over the two thousand year history of the Orthodox Christian Church and explained here in modern terms by Barbara Pappas, salvation is not a one-time, once-and-for-all event. It is instead a lifelong process of becoming whole and complete, one that leads the practicing Christian into an ever-deepening awareness of adoption by God through His grace. All proceeds from the sales of the English version of Are You Saved? go to the translation of the book into global language, all of which are available for FREE download from anywhere in the world at our companion website, orthodoxareyousaved.org. The website also features a multimedia collection of introductory information on Orthodox Christianity worldwide and near your home. "As soon as real faith begins, the believer actually begins to experience God s kingdom while still on earth ... Inching our way upward through the joys and pitfalls of life, the narrow gate into the fullness of the glorious Kingdom of God is our destination. We are put on this road at Baptism, with our eyes fixed on our Savior. The Holy Spirit lovingly nudges us along throughout our lives at a pace determined by our love and faith. The tools provided by the Church help us along the way, with sincere repentance and the Sacrament of Confession renewing us and putting us back on the road when we stray" (Are You Saved?, pg. 48).

Barbara Pappas holds a B.A. degree from DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois, with a concentration in early Church Fathers, the study of which has been her life-long passion. A lay assistant at the Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church in Westchester, Illinois, she has taught students of all ages for many years. She has also lectured to Orthodox and non-Orthodox alike in many areas of the United States and in Russia. As part of her continuing education, she is pursuing a Master's Degree in Theology in the St. Stephen's Orthodox Studies program.
Wife, mother of three, and grandmother of seven, Barbara is also the founder and director, along with Rev. William S. Chiganos, of the Holy Apostles Resource Center (HARC), which carries an inventory of about 1500 Orthodox book titles, icons, Church items, etc. and is open to the public daily. HARC is widely noted for its week-long "Celebration of Books" beginning the second Sunday of Great Lent each year, showcasing the books and presentations by noted authors and speakers from around the world.
