After attending Notre Dame and the University of Colorado Law School on scholarships, Suthers embarked on a legal career that took him from the local courthouse to the U.S. Supreme Court. He completed the ""legal trifecta,"" serving as district attorney, U.S. attorney, and state attorney general. He was involved in captivating criminal cases, historic civil cases, and in waging the war on terrorism after 9/11.

Starting in May 2015, Suthers served as the mayor of his hometown of Colorado Springs, leading it through a period of unprecedented prosperity, while overcoming challenges ranging from domestic terrorism to a global pandemic.
