Did You Say That? (Paperback)

Paperback. Garnet Star (Rosan Robertson) is a New York City-born poet who writes with faith in her heart and jazz in her step. This collection moves through six sections, each with its own voice.Graciously Honor Him offers poems of prayer, praise, and gratitude, including acrostic tributes to the Christian woman and the blessings found through patience and trust.Artful Applaud brings the swagger and style of city life: dancing till daylight, a fly girl strutting by, a subway stranger, and a mother and son in a spirited back-and-forth.Raving Lover's Heart celebrates love in all its forms: romance, the bond of lifelong friends, and a daughter's tribute to her mother, along with a musical salute to sax, guitar, piano, and drums.Narrates Making a Difference looks back on childhood games on Alpha-Best Street, a mother's handmade love, and a well-worn pair of black shoes that carried their owner through every season of life.Ever Sound Off speaks up about gossip, prejudice, and the everyday pressures of city living, and pays tribute to smooth jazz.Totally Unfair Deal confronts injustice, colorism, and indifference, and asks the question "Where's your heart?" It ends with a call to remember the little girls we used to be.Some poems rhyme, some spell out their themes letter by letter, and some talk straight to you. All of them are honest, rhythmic, and full of soul.Perfect for readers of inspirational and Christian poetry, fans of African American verse and spoken word, jazz lovers, and anyone who wants a book of poems that feels like good conversation.Believe in your dreams and pray about everything.
