On hearing her words, the crows do everything to protect their new, unexpected friend, by swooping low to peck the farmer on his head, while making an offer to the farmer to keep the scarecrow by eating enough to live and not all of his crops. The farmer is surprised to hear a crow make such an offer, but does not hesitate in shaking a wing in acceptance. The crows are very happy, keeping their pact with the farmer by eating enough of his crops to live, which allows them to keep the scarecrow, and the farmer is happy the farm will not end in ruin.
