The Austrian master Johann Berger (1845 - 1933) was an important theoretician and problem composer and influenced the development of artistic chess with his editing of the problem section of the Deutsche Schachzeitung. With this edition he wanted to establish the principles of the broadly based variant problem of the older German school. This item originates from the chess book collection of Zahari Stanchev, (April 27, 1920 - January 27, 1980) from Sofia, Bulgaria.
