Het bedrijf richt zich op de ontwikkeling, het ontwerp en de bouw van schepen en apparatuur voor de bagger- en offshore-industrie. Het bedrijf is ontstaan uit de fusie van twee bedrijven: IHC Holland Merwede Shipyard en (Industrial Trade-combinatie). Beide bedrijven hebben een geschiedenis die meer dan 100 jaar teruggaat. IHC Holland is voornamelijk gespecialiseerd in baggeractiviteiten en Merwede Shipyard vanwege de bouw naast de baggervaart ook voor de offshore-industrie.
