The January 2, 1911 concert of Arnold Schoenberg's compositions inspired Kandinsky to paint one of his great works, 'Impression III (Concert)', and led the inclusion of Schoenberg's own paintings in the landmark Blue Rider exhibition organized by Kandinsky and fellow art Franz Marc. At the core of the exhibition were paintings by Kandinsky and Marc as well as a small circle of their associates - among them Gabriele Munter, August Macke, and Albert Bloch. This volume explores these events and the relationships of these artists in five captivating essays. Includes a compact disc consisting of the compositions performed at the January 1911 concert. Color/b&w illus.
