About the Author:

Janet Allen taught reading for more than 20 years in Maine. She is now a researcher and international reading consultant recognized for her comprehensive work in reading education. She is the author of several books, including Words, Words, Words: Teaching Vocabulary in Grades 4-12 and Yellow Brick Roads: Shared and Guided Paths to Independent Reading 4-12 (both published by Stenhouse). This is her first book for Scholastic Teaching Resources. Patrick Daley helped develop Scholastic's Read 180, a reading intervention program for upper elementary students.
