School Leadership in the 21st Century: A Competency and Knowledge Approach

Education reform has been a dominating feature not only of education in the UK, but also in many countries across the world. As a result of this, it is now more important than ever that headteachers and school leaders develop the skills which will enable them to lead their new responsibilities effectively.
The writers of this book argue that in order to be an effective leader, school leaders need to have a clear understanding of:
* the changing context of education;
* the changing nature of self-managing schools;
* their own leadership and management skills within this environment.
The book focuses on these leadership and management perspectives using a competency and knowledge approach. It provides a clear framework which enables school leaders to develop and reflect upon their own skills.
All school leaders will find that this book gives them a much needed insight into leading schools as they move into the 21st century.
