Historische Landkarte, von Gerard Mercator. 38,6 x 50,6 cm (Darstellung / Platte), 50,5 x 60 cm (Blatt).Dargestellt ist das Gebiet vom Bieler See im Norden, Thuner See im Osten, Genf am Genfer See im Süden und Gex (Ain) und dem Lac des Rousses im Westen. - Lateinischer Rückentext. Mittige Bugfalte entfernt. Sehr guter Zustand.Gerard Mercator (1512 Rupelmonde - 1594 Duisburg). Auch Gerard De Kremer oder Gerhard Krämer. Flämischer Mathematiker, Geograf, Philosoph, Theologe und Kartograf. Nach dem Tod des Vaters von den Brüdern vom gemeinsamen Leben in Herzogenbusch erzogen. So war unter anderen Georgius Macropedius sein Lehrer. Ab 1530 Studium an der Universität Löwen. 1532 zum Magister artium promoviert. 1534-37 warer bei Gemma Frisius tätig. 1552 folgt er einem Ruf an die neugegründete Universität Duisburg als Professor für Kosmografie. 1559-62 war er als Lehrer für Mathematik und Kosmografie am Duisburger Akademischen Gymnasium tätig. Links oben Titelkartusche mit Signatur, darunter Entfernungsmaßstäbe. Rechts unten bezeichnet: Guihel. Blaeu excudit. 38,6 x 50,6 cm (Darstellung / Platte), 50,5 x 60 cm (Blatt).
