Fair/Acceptable heavy cloth hardcover with clean pages and no dust jacket. Stamped design with gilt titles. Moderate shelf wear to edges and corners of covers and spine. Binding is loose and a few sections of pages have come away, but no pages appear to be missing. Back endpages are torn away from the binding. Front endpages were taped together by a previous owner. Moderate foxing and tanned pages. The illustrations/typography are particularly beautiful, with small scenic illustrations for the drop caps/chapter headings. Subject matter is blunt, and authoritative, for the time - a whole chapter in the Consummation section on the proper time and setting for conception. Other sections deal with the period of gestative influence - living in dark unventilated rooms will result in an idiot child for example. Odd but beautiful. ; 9 X 6 X 1.75 inches.
