Gr 5-7--Following an overview of rain and the water cycle, Gardner offers a variety of related activities and experiments such as making a rain gauge, measuring the dew point, making a rainbow with a garden hose, and examining snow flakes. Most of the projects are quite easy. The need for adult supervision is noted when appropriate, as are the experiments that might be turned into science projects, although most students will need more direction in order to develop the activity into a full-fledged project. An inadequate index and useful list of further readings are included. Print is fairly large and unintimidating. Required materials are listed at the beginning of each section. Simple, clear drawings, charts, and diagrams, plus interesting little tidbits of information, are scattered throughout. Some of these activities appear in other books, but it's helpful to have these precipitation-related projects together.
