Three fascinating volumes from the Bohn's Scientific Library' series. Containing the following three works: 'Scientific Dialogues for the Instruction and Entertainment of Young People;' by the Rev. J Joyce; edited with additions by William Pinnock, and revised by J. W. Griffith. This copy was published in 1855. 'Chemical Field Lectures. A Familiar Exposition of the Chemistry of Agriculture, addressed to Farmers' by Dr. Julius A. Stockhardt; translated and edited by Arthur Henfrey with a paper on 'Irrigating with Liquid Manure' by J. J. Mechi. This copy was published in 1855. 'Experimental Chemistry Founded on the Work of Dr. Julius Adolph Stockhardt. A Handbook for the Study of the Science by Simple Experiments' by C. W. Heaton. This is a 'new edition, revised' and published in 1887. The 'Bohn's Scientific Library' series was originally published and inaugurated by the prolific British publisher Henry George Bohn. Beginning in 1846, Bohn began producing his general 'Bohn's Libraries' that containing editions of standard works and translations on such subjects as history, science, classics, theology and archaeology, and more. The series was particularly well received due to their marketing to a general mass readership. the low price of the works, and also their "lack of literary pretensions". Bohn sold his Bohn's Libraries in 1864 to Messrs. Bell and Daldy, afterwards G. Bell & Sons, explaining the different publisher's imprint to Stockhardt's 'Experimental Chemistry' in this set. With an extensive publisher's catalogue to the rear of 'Experimental Chemistry' dated 'June, 1888', and an undated publisher's catalogue to the rear of 'Chemistry of Agriculture'. ' 'Chemistry of Agriculture' also features advertisements for 'Bohn's Standard Library' to the endpapers. With several small in-text illustration to 'Experimental Chemistry' and 'Scientific Dialogues'. In a uniform red cloth binding with elaborate blind stamped design to boards and spine. Externally very smart with slight bumping to extremities and head and tail of spines. Slight chipping to head of spine, 'Scientific Dialogues'. Slight fading and the odd mark to spine, 'Scientific Dialogues'. Front free-endpaper detached but present to 'Scientific Dialogues'. Internally firmly bound. Pages slightly age toned to extremities but very bright and clean throughout. Prior owner's ink inscription to title page, 'Scientific Dialogues' and front free-endpaper and half title page ''Experimental Chemistry'. Very Good Indeed. Seller Inventory # 647M17
