Reviews
Gr. 3-5. Part of the Turning Points in History series, this attractive, large-size volume is made up of 20 chapters, each one about a crucial scientific invention or discovery. From Galileo and Marie Curie to the decoders of DNA and the first men on the moon, each great breakthrough is described in three to five pages that focus on the scientists and their work. The style is informal and journalistic, and the design has the appeal of a popular magazine article, with lots of inserts about "Fascinating Facts." Ingpen's handsome illustrations in full color on every page range from portraits to machinery. This is for kids who like to read the encyclopedia as well as for browsers interested in science and technology. Hazel Rochman
