1778. No edition remarks. Half bound brown leather with marbled paper covered boards and gilt lettering to spine. Re-bound. Dedicated to the Catch Club, an exclusive society formed to promote popular music of the time. In English. Dimensions: 22.5cm x 14cm x 2.25cm. Robert Burns contributed 40 songs to this second volume of exclusively Scottish tunes (six volumes in all), but he would only be credited in later issues, as his fame grew. Pages with some foxing and tanning, but the binding is good and firm. Some minor pencil marginalia and a previous owner's name to title page, dated 1795 with a modern name to the new front free endpaper. Boards have only minimal shelf wear and very little marking. A collection of Scottish music that was immensely popular internationally, with both Haydn and Beethoven producing arrangements of some of the songs. This copy was sold at Fentum's, the Strand.
