Scottish Rite Masonry

Uncover the Inner Workings of the Scottish Rite

First published in the late 19th century, Scottish Rite Masonry by John Blanchard stands as one of the most comprehensive and controversial examinations of Freemasonry ever printed. Driven by a deep conviction against the existence of secret societies, Blanchard set out to completely demystify the esoteric orders by publishing their exact rituals, signs, grips, and passwords for the public to see.

In Volume 1, Blanchard meticulously breaks down the ceremonies of the Scottish Rite. From the opening of the lodge to the detailed theatrical progression of the initiates, this text provides an unfiltered, step-by-step look into the hidden practices of one of the world's most famous and secretive fraternal organizations.

Inside this historical documentation, readers will find:

• The Degrees: A detailed breakdown of the rituals from the 4th degree up through the Chapter of Rose Croix (18th degree).
• Guarded Secrets: The specific oaths, passwords, and symbolic gestures required for advancement within the order.
• Historical Context: A fascinating look at 19th-century American anti-Masonic movements and the ideological battle over secret societies.

Whether you are a historian, a student of esoteric orders, or simply curious about what happens behind the closed doors of a Masonic lodge, Scottish Rite Masonry, Vol. 1 is an indispensable and fascinating primary source document.

Jonathan "John" Blanchard (1811-1892) was a prominent American educator, social reformer, abolitionist, and pastor. As the founder and president of Wheaton College, he was a staunch opponent of secret societies. Believing that organizations like Freemasonry were incompatible with Christian principles and public transparency, he devoted much of his later life to meticulously documenting and exposing their highly guarded rituals, passwords, and inner workings to the general public.
