About the Author

Sharon A. Gutman, PhD, OTR, is an associate professor at Columbia University, Programs in Occupational Therapy. She also is the Editor-in-Chief of the American Journal of Occupational Therapy. Dr. Gutman holds clinical expertise in traumatic brain injury and organic brain disease and has taught clinical neuroscience and neuropathology for over a decade. She has prolifically published journal articles and textbooks on these subjects.

Alison B. Schonfeld, OTR/L, co-taught classes with Sharon A. Gutman as her neuroscience laboratory assistant and has 15 years of experience with patients with low vision and with neurologically involved patients, including those with traumatic brain injury, cerebrovascular accident, acquired brain injury, Parkinson's disease, and multiple sclerosis.
