About the Author: Sylvie Durmelat is an associate professor of French and Francophone studies at Georgetown University. Vinay Swamy is an associate professor of French and Francophone studies at Vassar College and the author of Interpreting the Republic: Marginalization and Belonging in Contemporary French Novels and Films.
