About the Author
Clive Staples Lewis, was born in Belfast, Ireland, in 1898. As a child, he was fascinated by the fairy tales, myths, and ancient legends recounted to him by his Irish nurse. The image of a faun carrying parcels and an umbrella in a snowy wood came to him when he was sixteen. Many years later, the faun was joined by an evil queen and a magnificent lion. Their story became The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe. Six further Chronicles of Narnia followed, and the final title, The Last Battle, was awarded the United Kingdom's prestigious Carnegie Award.
Lewis was Fellow and Tutor in English Literature at Magdalen College, Oxford, and later was Professor of Medieval and Renaissance Literature at Cambridge University, where he remained until his death in 1963. He wrote numerous books of literary criticism and on Christianity, the best-known being The Screwtape Letters, as well as four novels for adults. The seven books of The Chronicles of Narnia were his only works for children.

Review
Obviously, the book wasn't written with former Monty Python John Cleese in mind, but it's hard to imagine a better Screwtape. Cleese's voice provides the perfect vehicle for Lewis's dry, razor-edged wit. His uncanny comic timing and ability to milk each phrase for maximum effect betray an infectious enthusiasm for the story. It's clear that he's having a great time reading, and it's impossible not to laugh along with him. This inspired pairing of two of the 20th century's greatest wits makes for a meditation on the dark side of spiritual guidance that's as relevant and funny today as it was in Lewis's war-torn England. (Running time: 4 hours, 3 cassettes) --Andrew Neiland

Welcome to the Solr Books & Books4Cause AbeBooks page! We are a social venture dedicated to supporting social causes, education, and community through a business model. Books4Cause doesn’t raise funds or rely on government grants. All of our funding comes from selling a portion of used books donated to us. Our main goal is to recirculate books back into the hands of people who will read and treasure them. We support both local and global initiatives. Through partnering with the African Library Project, we have built over 120 libraries in nursery schools, elementary schools, high schools, and universities across 18 countries in Africa. Our pop-up free library program in Chicago distributes free books in under-served neighborhoods throughout the city, giving necessary resources to children, adults, and families who otherwise may not have been able to access them.
