Chap-book, printed rose-colored wrapper, 10.8 x 6.8 cm, (4 1/4 x 2 5/8 inches), 17 pp. of text with 30 small wood engravings, including the one on the front of the wrapper. Small inscription in brown ink on the title page. List of children's books published by Day on the back cover. The Scripture Alphabet in Verse, pp. 1-15; Questiopns for Very Small Children, p. 16; A Child's Evening Prayer, p. 17; the alphabet in lower case is printed on the recto of the back cover.The printer's address is "At the New Juvenile Book-Store, no. 376, Pearl-street." Mahlon Day (1790-1854), b. Morristown, NJ; d. at sea in the sinking of the SS Arctic off the coast of Newfoundland. Day was an Orthodox Quaker and travelled with Joseph John Gurney in his ministry chronicling in his diary their trip through the West Indies and the Caribbean in 1839-40. His press produced many tracts for New York Yearly and Monthly Meetings. He was a trustee of the African Free School and a manager of the New York Institution for the Blind. "Mahlon Day was one of two printers who dominated the New York City children's book publishing scene in the early 19th century (the other being Samuel Wood).
