A Scripture Help : Designed to Assist in Reading the Bible, Profitably: Volume 16

"A Scripture Help : Designed To Assist In Reading The Bible, Profitably" by Edward Henry Bickersteth. This volume presents the Family Expositions on the Epistles of St. John and St. Jude, and on Paul's Epistles to Timothy, compiled from abridged notes intended for daily family worship and reading. The text offers practical, devotional reflections rather than scholarly critique, teaching readers to discern the nature of true Christian life—fellowship with God and with believers, and a living trust in Christ—through verse-by-verse commentary. Structured as lessons and Prefaces (notably dated 1846), it emphasizes foundational Christian doctrines: the light and purity of God, the atoning work of Jesus, the security of the believer, and the practical calls to holiness, charity, and missionary zeal. Though written for private use and family instruction, the Expositions aim to strengthen faith, nurture perseverance, and promote a God-centered, scripturally anchored Christian life in mid-19th-century evangelical Anglican tradition.
