The Scripture-Theory of the Earth: Throughout All Its Revolutions, and All the Periods of Its Existence, from the Creation, to the Final Renovation of All Things

The Scripture-Theory Of The Earth: Throughout All Its Revolutions, And All The Periods Of Its Existence, From The Creation, To The Final Renovation Of All Things by William Worthington. This work presents a Scripture-based natural history, arguing that biblical revelation furnishes a comprehensive framework for the Earth’s origin, its successive revolutions, and its ultimate renewal. Worthington attempts to harmonize Genesis, the Deluge, and subsequent changes with early modern ideas of geology and cosmology. He traces the Creation in ordered stages—earth, water, air, and fire—and explains the formation of light, the division of the heavens, the separation of land and sea, the creation of seasons, and the establishment of divine laws governing nature. A major portion is devoted to the Fall and its consequences for the ground, the Flood and its global nature, the rise of mountains, the rainbow as a covenant sign, and the postdiluvian state. The author also envisions a future renovation by fire, and the restoration of the earth to a paradisiacal condition, integrating scriptural prophecy with a natural philosophy of earth’s history.
