Print on Demand. This book is an absorbing look at Scugog Township in Ontario, Canada, narrated through the fascinating tales of its pioneers. Situated in an area originally home to an Indian tribe, Scugog was surveyed in 1809 and slowly populated by settlers who would irrevocably shape its fate. Historian F.G. Weir has painstakingly collected oral histories and archival records to build a compelling narrative of the ingenuity, determination, and camaraderie of the people who established this thriving community. The book provides unparalleled insight into the challenges of establishing homes and livelihoods in the Canadian wilderness, the nascent development of municipal governance, and the environmental impact of the settlers. Weir's meticulous research offers a rich account of the trials and tribulations of everyday life in a bygone era and celebrates the enduring legacy of the township's pioneers. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

- Biography and Autobiography
Framed by a broad sweep of Ontario’s early history, this book traces how settlers, churches, and local government helped form the landscape around Scugog Island and Port Perry. It blends narrative with archival detail to illuminate the daily work, faith, and ambition of those who built the area.
Readers will find a map of a community at work—its towns, roads, schools, and churches—told through the voices of people who lived it. The text situates local events within the province’s broader story, showing how a small place contributed to a larger Canadian mosaic.
- Overview of the county’s origins and the push for separation from York
- Accounts of early churches, missions, and the role of religion in the community
- Profiles of key figures and political debates that shaped the area
- A guide to the island’s geography, settlements, and historical sites
Ideal for readers interested in Ontario history, local heritage, and the everyday lives of pioneers who left a lasting mark on Scugog.

All Forgotten Books titles are printed on demand. The moment an order is submitted, it is automatically transmitted to our distributor and then forwarded to the printer, where it enters production. This process begins within minutes and is entirely automated.

For this reason, we kindly ask that you double-check the title, edition, and your shipping details before placing an order.
If you change your mind after ordering, you are welcome to return the book once it arrives, and a refund will be issued in accordance with AbeBooks’ return policy.
Please also make sure your address is correct before ordering as we will no be able to intervene and make changes before the book is shipped.
We can provide digital samples for all our print books ahead, so don't hesitate to reach out.
Returns
As a small publisher we do not have the facilities to resell returned books, so any returned book will be recycled. If the book is damaged or defective please continue with the return process, and thank you for letting us know so that we can improve our products. If you’re returning for another reason, however, please consider whether you could donate or gift the book instead so that it avoids the waste pile.
