This volume describes 302 species of commonly observed invertebrates, an increase of 19 new species over the first edition. About the Author
Alex Kerstitch: Graduated from the University of Arizona, where he continued his graduate training in Biological Oceanography and Marine Ecology, and joined the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology as a research assistant in Marine Sciences. Combining his talent as an illustrator and photographer with his extensive diving experience, he has illustrated and coauthored "Reef Fishes of the Sea of Cortez," as well as written numerous articles in both popular and scientific journals. An award-winning photographer and talented illustrator, his work has been featured in many national and international publications. He was a Research Associate in Marine Sciences at the University of Arizona and taught high school marine biology in Tucson. Through his teaching and publications he strove to show others the richness of the Sea of Cortez. Alex died on March 23, 2001. His legacy continues with our caring for earth's wondrous life. Hans Bertsch: Hans received his Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley. His many publications include technical works on archaeology, the philosophy of science, and marine biology; essays and fiction, popular scientific articles on various natural history topics, and the book "Hawaiian Nudibranchs." His biological research areas emphasize the land and marine waters of the Baja California peninsula. Of special interest are opisthobranch taxonomy, evolutionary ecology, predator-prey relationships, the functional morphology of molluscan radulae, the natural history and zoogeography of marine invertebrates, and biodiversity and habitat conservation. He has taught field and lecture courses at colleges and universities in Hawai'i, California, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Mexico. He has enjoyed the peoples, lands and underwater discoveries of Australia, Tahiti, Hawai'i, Peru, Panama, Mexico, the western U.S., Canada, the Caribbean, and Europe.
