In this volume, there is no attempt to deal with the political difficulties and social aspirations of the inhabitants of these wonderful portions of the British Empire. A conscientious effort has been made, however, to convey useful and interesting information regarding the seaports with which it is concerned, more especially their commercial and industrial activities. This thin book is an extract of the Sri Lankan portion of a larger work that notices the ports of India too. It starts with a historical sketch of Colombo and then gives a survey of the commercial aspects of the city, whereby are offered small notes on many business and commercial ventures that flourished do to the sea going trade. This book is also an account of the historical and descriptive commercial and industrial facts, figures and resources with numerous illustrations. This book is a reprint of the 1928 edition.
