About this title

Synopsis

The true story of Ruth Simmons, who, while under hypnosis, recounts her previous life as a nineteenth-century Irish woman—a fascinating exploration of consciousness and the power of the human mind

Tonight, I will attempt an experiment in hypnosis that I have never before undertaken. The subject will be Ruth Simmons. This is November 29, 1952.

Thus begins Dr. Morey Bernstein’s clinical log of his time with Ruth Simmons, who, under his skilled guidance, uncovers the story of Bridey Murphy. Though she had never left America, Ruth is able to recall vivid details of nineteenth-century Ireland as she shares details from Bridey’s life: her teenage years, her marriage, her nuclear family, and, ultimately, her death at the age of sixty-six.

Both a thought-provoking investigation of reincarnation and the accuracy of hypnotic readings, The Search for Bridey Murphy presents a mesmerizing journey into the enigmatic realms of the human psyche.

About the Author

Morey Bernstein was a Colorado businessman who pursued an amateur interest in hypnotism all the way back to 19th-century Ireland as he coaxed a young mother into recounting a previous life as a woman named Bridey Murphy.  His book, The Quest for Bridey Murphy, was published in 1956, re-issued in 1965, and was eventually published in 30 languages in 34 countries.
