This is the author's personal journey as an unauthorized sports reporter and how this led to private conversations with University of Michigan Coach Lloyd Carr and some of his assistant coaches, including description of the kind of meetings that reporters never get to attend. The book also relates an odd turn, taking iconic coach Bo Schembechler's last autograph (on a helmet) to Warren Buffett in Omaha. In addition, the author explores certain statistical metrics, including some unusual ones, and Coach Carr's reactions to these ideas. Ross takes a new look at the transition in coaches at Michigan--- from Carr to Rich Rodriguez--- and details the history of offensive football from 1895 to present day, with a focus on explaining the basics of current spread offenses. The book is marginally gonzo and fun.
About the Author: Craig Ross is an attorney who lives and practices law in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He does some free-lance sports writing and is honored to share radio time with Brian Cook (MGoBlog) and Ed Feng (The Power Rank) on WTKA. This is his second book on Michigan sports, the first titled The Obscene Diaries of a Michigan Fan (2005).
