Seasonal Migration And Rural Livelihoods In Kalahandi, Odisha: Strategies, Sustainability And Socio-Economic Transformation [Hardcover]

"About The Book:- This book examines the demographic, social and economic aspects, patterns and consequences of seasonal migration in one of Odisha’s historically migration-prone regions. The book analyses seasonal migration as a livelihood strategy among migrant rural households, with particular emphasis on socio-economic conditions, landholding, employment opportunities, caste and migration destinations, and occupational diversification. Drawing on extensive field-based research, the book explores why households undertake seasonal migration, how migration is organised, and how it influences income, livelihoods, household well-being and affect food security. It also critically examines whether seasonal migration provide a sustainable livelihood opportunity or primarily represents a coping and survival strategy for economically vulnerable households. The book offers a geographical perspective on migration, rural livelihoods and socio-economic transformation in Kalahandi district, and provides useful insights for researchers, students, teachers, policymakers and others interested in migration and development studies.
