Inked/painted illustrations. Red leather boards with gilt stamped embellishments and gilt stamped lettering on spine. Boards rubbed, with chipping of leather. A large portion of the spine is chipped away (see photograph). Front board's internal hinge is cracked. Rear board is completely detached. Pages have age toning and foxing. One of the illustrations is detached (but still present). James Thomson (1700 – 1748) was a Scottish poet and playwright, known for his poems The Seasons and The Castle of Indolence, and for the lyrics of "Rule, Britannia!"Inv. # 11764.
