In a half calf binding with marbled paper boards, raised bands and red morocco spine label. Adorned with a portrait frontispiece, additional engraved title page, and seven engraved plates, from original paintings. Collated, complete. Originally issued one season at a time from 1726-1730,The Seasons reflects on the landscape of the countryside, and was highly influential and popular for at least a century after its writing, inspiring the likes of Joshua Reynolds, John Christopher Smith and J. M. W. Turner. Scottish poet and playwright James Thomson was also known forThe Castle of Indolence and for the lyrics of "Rule, Britannia!". In a half calf binding with marbled paper boards, raised bands and red morocco spine label.Externally, generally smart, with really only rubbing to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean, with scattered spotting to the first and last couple leaves and endpapers. Good.
