With her three grown-up daughters now living in Picklewick, sixty-nine-year-old Beth feels lonely, abandoned and forgotten, so she decides to leave her home in Birmingham and rent a house in the village to be near them.

Walter hasn't been well, but now that he's on the road to recovery he's getting itchy feet. Aware that his cottage could do with some repairs, he decides to tackle them himself rather than ask his busy son.

However when Beth's house move doesn't go to plan and Walter's DIY attempts turn into a catastrophe, they find themselves thrown together, much to their mutual displeasure.
