For twenty-two years, David Okonkwo-Reyes did exactly what he was supposed to do. He climbed the corporate ladder, secured a comfortable six-figure salary, and quietly assumed he was financially secure. Then, an ordinary Tuesday afternoon "Organizational Update" email arrived. That night, David sat down and did something he had never done before: he listed his household’s monthly expenses in one column of a spreadsheet and his sources of income in another. The income column had exactly one entry. Every mortgage payment, every college tuition installment, and every utility bill traced back to a single employer that could reorganize itself overnight without his permission. In a single moment, David realized a terrifying truth: income level and income resilience are not the same thing. If your household depends on a single paycheck, you are carrying massive, unexamined concentration risk.
The Strategic Alternative: Settle the Risk Before a Crisis Arrives. In The Second Income Advantage, Book 3 of The Second Working Life Series, Grant M. Whitaker delivers a clear-eyed, evidence-based roadmap to help experienced professionals diversify their income using the skills they already possess. This is not another unconvincing book about "passive income" dreams, grinding out a stressful second full-time job in your evenings, or taking a reckless, uncalculated leap into entrepreneurship. Whitaker's design constraint is absolute: your second income must fit realistically around a real career, a real family, and a finite number of hours.
What You Will Master Inside the Experience-to-Income Framework: Through the highly relatable, unglamorous struggles of four corporate professionals—David, Melissa, Robert, and Elena—you will learn how to:
- Stop Thinking in Job Titles: Translate standard, duty-focused job descriptions into high-impact, portable outcomes that direct buyers desperately want to pay for.
- Choose the Smallest Credible Start: Design a tightly bounded, two-week "pilot" engagement to test market demand instantly with almost zero risk.
- Price the Problem, Not Your Self-Worth: Anchor your pricing directly to what the problem costs the buyer, avoiding the trap of comparing your value to your current salaried hourly wage.
- Start with Relationships, Not Followers: Secure your first paying clients by activating warm connections in your existing professional network, completely bypassing the need to build an online audience or "personal brand".
- Do Not Build a Second Full-Time Job: Protect your primary career and family life by implementing firm capacity limits, calendar blocks, and standardized repeatable delivery templates.
Actionable Tools for a Real Monday Morning Whitaker spent decades working his way from a factory floor to a director level before his own corporate role was eliminated in a single afternoon. He writes with deep empathy and zero motivational hype. Every chapter includes concrete actions, and the back matter features fifteen practical, short worksheets to help you build your plan, including:
- The Income Dependence Scorecard to audit your financial exposure.
- The Paid-Value Inventory to map the hidden problems people already trust you to solve.
- The Experience Asset Map to translate your skills into portable value.
- The First Paid Pilot Plan to define tight scope boundaries before you start.

Store description
We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies. Working with a number of different suppliers allows us to explore other avenues such as puzzles, sheet music and even stationery so we really do have something for everyone. Life is about being versatile in all realms of existence. If this is your first visit or you are a returning customer, we would like to welcome you to the PBShop family, for there is no friend as loyal as a book. We are a company who put our customers at the centre of everything we do as we understand the importance of reading because once you learn to read, you will forever be free. There are a whole lot of things in this world of ours that we are yet to explore, which is why we will forever inspire curious minds.…
