A Second Start: A Widow's Guide to Financial Survival at a Time of Emotional Crisis

Gives women practical advice on how to make financial decisions should they become widows, describes the stages of grief, and discusses wills, budgeting, funeral arrangements, social security, pensions, insurance and investments

The theme of this collaboration between a psychotherapist and a financial planner is that "grief and money mangement proceed hand in hand" and that "the two processes provide a good balance for recovery." Thus most chapters begin with advice on managing the emotions of widowhood and then continue with money-managing counsel on such matters as budgets, wills, insurance, storing financial papers, and getting a "professional support team." Chapter-ending "Action Checklists" are included to monitor compliance with the various bits of psychological and financial advice. Most coverage is at a very elementary level, and the tone is often that of a mother teaching a rather young child. Neither grief recovery nor finances are likely to be much helped.
