The Secret History Of The Court Of Berlin; Or, The Character Of The King Of Prussia, His Ministers, Mistresses, Generals, Courtiers, Favourites, And T

Behind the glitter of coronations lies a world of intrigue, ambition and fear. Power has always loved secrecy. In The Secret History Of The Court Of Berlin (Volume II), Count Mirabeau continues his searing portrait of 18th century Prussia, revealing the king of Prussia, his ministers, mistresses, generals and courtiers through a private stream of letters. This royal court memoirs book opens the doors of the Prussian royal court scandals and prussian court politics, capturing the tremors of european monarchies intrigue from Berlin to St Petersburg and The Hague in a historical letters collection that feels shockingly intimate. Written from within the orbit of Enlightenment era Berlin, these dispatches offer a vivid counterpart to any Frederick the Great biography, sketching the late monarch and his European contemporaries alongside the new reign that followed him. As a political history classic, it speaks both to curious general readers and to those for european history students or for royal biography readers seeking primary voices from european royal courts history, from Prussia and Russia to Germany and Holland. The closing memorial to the new king of Prussia deepens the sense of a continent on the brink of change.
