About the Author

As a young woman, Mary Reeves Bellmoved to Europe and spent six years in Austria and the former Yugoslavia working as a missionary. Her life, her work, and her studies were all done in the shadow of areas haunted by the specter of the Holocaust, and she began to visit the sites of the Shoah and question the absence of any unified resistance by the church in Germany and Austria.

Eventually her research and interest led her to write, The Secret of the Mezuzah, a teen book designed to keep the memory of the Holocaust alive in the next generation and remind young Christian readers that we must not fail to live out justice as God requires.

Bell has studied at the Moody Bible Institute and followed that with advanced study in Hebrew and Hebraic culture at the University of Vienna, Rutgers University, and Bethel Seminary. Her love and interest in the time and history of the Jewish culture has informed her writings and her specific research into the Holocaust formed the background for her PASSPORT TO DANGER series.

Besides writing her books, which were originally published with NavPress and have been updated and rereleased for a new audience, Bell has also worked as a freelance writer, publishing articles with World and Virtue magazine. She has also served on the editorial board of Virtue for two years.

Currently, her focus is a speaking and writing ministry aimed at the field of missions and directed by the missionary outreach program of McLean Presbyterian Church. She serves on the board of three missions organizations and as Executive Director of Romanian Christian Enterprises, frequently travels to Eastern Europe, as well as throughout the world.

Bell, mother of three and grandmother to three more, lives in Virginia with her husband, David. One of her great pleasures in life is visiting a family ranch on the plains of Wyoming.
