Joseph is an entangled boy living in an African village, trapped by his parents and their dreams of him having a future he never wanted. With the help of one of the story's most mysterious characters, Dr. Steven, Joseph gets his first taste of the world beyond his small town: knowledge and power.

However, as he strives for it and begins exploring the forbidden knowledge of elder magic, the evil slowly gnaws at Joseph.
