Reviews
Goldstein has delved into a new area of consumer education. Unlike her name and address directory, The Underground Shopper ( LJ 8/83), this book offers a behind-the-scenes look at several of the world's most loosely regulated industries: fashion; carpet, furniture, antiques and auctions; cosmetics; food; gray market cars, cameras, and computers; insurance; jewelry; mail-order shopping; real estate and mortgages. Even though recently published titles (David Marcum, The Dow Jones-Irwin Guide to Fine Gems and Jewelry , LJ 4/1/86; and Elaine Brumberg, Save Your Money, Save Your Face: what every cosmetic buyer needs to know, LJ 5/15/86) are more thorough for specific areas, public libraries will still want this title.
