Security in Computer Operating Systems

The security of operating systems is often crucial to the overall security of a computer system but because it is such a specialised topic many practitioners are unfamiliar with the important concepts and the techniques that are now available. This book is intended for the people responsible for the preservation of security in contemporary operating systems, in particular for systems administrators, security officers, auditors and systems programmers in commercial installations; brings together a great deal of disparate information which is otherwise found widely scattered in research papers and specialist publications; and concentrates on the fundamental concepts on which most individual systems are built (although specific systems are used as examples where necessary).
The author always introduces techniques and concepts in a form that will be illuminating and useful to the reader, avoiding detailed theoretical discussions.
