Students use a variety of representational tools—diagrams, words, tables, graphs, and equations—to understand linear patterns and functions. They connect the rate of change with the slope of a line and compare linear with nonlinear relationships. They also gain facility with and comprehension of basic algebraic notation.

About the EMPower™ and EMPower Plus™ series

TERC’s EMPower series provides adults and adolescents with the conceptual understanding necessary to succeed as they seek a high school credential, college degree, or advanced job training. With EMPower, algebraic, statistical, and geometrical ideas are developed as students learn to apply foundational number sense, estimation, and problem-solving skills to real-world situations. The seven-title series teaches and reinforces the College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education.
