Seiyu Roku. On Oil Manufacturing.

Translated into English by Eiko Ariga and edited by Carter Litchfield. Illustrated with black and white line images mostly full page, 79pp, printed in a Japanese style binding with folded leaves and four hole stab binding. Very good copy in blue cloth covered folder title in gilt in Japanese and English on upper cover and spine. Very good condition. First published in Japanese in 1836. "As a student of the chemical and technological history of fatty materials, the title (in English translation) and the remarkable illustrations immediately caught my eye. No western monograph on oilseed technology ever pictured the processes of oil extraction so vividly." Since so few firsthand descriptions of 19th century Japanese technology are accessible to western readers, this English version of Seiyu Roku may prove useful for historians of industrial technology."
