A beautiful example of aquatint engravings from the 18th century. 62 aquatint engravings in addition to the frontispiece, as listed in the Table of Illustrations. All plates are clean; three of the plates have very small fox spots outside the image in the margins, but none in the image. There is the usual light brown tinge caused by the plates on the facing pages. It doesn't look like these prints ever had protective slips, looking at the binding. Elephant folio in 19th-century 3/4 Leather binding, black decorated brown calf and cream linen. Front leather hinge torn at bottom, 1" long. Stain in front board linen at top and bottom, about 1/2" deep probably from handling. Linen coming away ("bubbling") a bit at top of front board. Book size is 18 - 3/8" (46.67cm) x 13-1/4" (33.65cm). Actual plate impression size is 11" x 8".
