Select Notes of the Preaching of . Rowland Hill, by E. Sidney

Select Notes Of The Preaching Of Rowland Hill, edited by Edwin Sidney, is a historical collection that compiles the evangelical sermons of the late Rev. Rowland Hill, A.M. This volume presents Hill’s pulpit addresses in an abridged form, organized with prefatory remarks, contents, and a sequence of sermons (I–XVI) along with several fragments. Drawing from manuscript notes and transcripts, notably Brookman’s notes and Davenport’s memoranda, it offers a glimpse into 19th-century evangelical preaching. The editor aims to preserve Hill’s doctrinal substance while trimming digressions to retain the core message. Central themes include the depravity of man, regeneration, faith and works, the necessity of Christ’s sufferings, the atonement, the Trinity, and practical exhortations on humility, prayer, and spiritual discipline. This collection underscores the power of grace, the Spirit’s work in the heart, and the call to holy living within evangelical preaching.
